We are thrilled to be shortlisted for Eviivo's top award, saved until last at the big presentation event in a top restaurant in Covent Garden (James Bond themed, not unlike last years Venetian evening). Judging is based on a combination of everything that makes a B and B that bit extra special.

Every candidate guesthouse is individually judged on hosting, breakfasts, accommodation, facilities and guest reviews with a big emphasis once more on our website and customer care.

This shortlisting means that eviivo considers Greylands to be one of the best 5 in Wales which, in itself is a big achievement. Should we win this one, on the presentation night a star of stars will be chosen from all of the regional finalists. We are now reaching for the stars (so to speak) and are aiming for 5 star status with visit Wales. Upwards and onwards, or to borrow the motto of the Royal Air Force "Per ardua ad astra" - Through struggle to the stars!

Thank you to all the lovely guests who have stayed with us and made this all possible.

While Spring usually offers crisp mornings and misty evenings in natures preparations for the bigger deal – Summer – we’ve been fortunate enough lately to enjoy some summer weather much sooner. There has never been a better time to get away for a few days!

Of course, the good old British weather doesn’t always keep its promises and while we might don our bikinis (and that’s just the men!) all too soon, it might be a good idea to pop a raincoat in your case too because it never hurts to be prepared!

At Greylands Guest House, we aren’t so concerned about the unpredictable weather because we know we can offer our guests a warm welcome, hot meals and a cold beer no matter what’s happening outside.

And that’s where you come in. All our guests are offered free WIFI and TV in their rooms with coffee and tea making facilities. Most people enjoy en-suites so we offer those too.

We are located in rural Wales – Llandrindod Wells - so hiking, biking and motorcycling are often the go to hobbies our guests enjoy.

If our place sounds like your kind of place, add to that a friendly face upon arrival, then we hope to see you very soon.

May is a great month to get away from work for a few days and enjoy just being somewhere else. With two rounds of bank holidays at the beginning and the end of the month, there are opportunities for weekend family breaks, or just getting away from it all alone.

In Llandrindod Wells, the beginning of the month sees two events of note coming up, there is the Llandod Ale and Cider Nouveau Trail with music and more going on throughout the town from Friday the 4th of May to Monday the 7th. Then, on Monday the 7th, the Llandrindod May Fair celebrates all that is good locally, with crafts and cottage industries much to the fore.

Of course, you don't have to take part in any organised activities to enjoy Llandrindod Wells and the surrounding areas. There is a wealth of natural beauty around here, or the dramatic scenery around the Elan Valley Reservoirs, just a few miles away in Rhayader, as well as the amazing sight of a couple of hundred majestic Red Kites being fed all at once, in the nearby Red Kite Centre.

You can have a visit here that is as active or as peaceful as you wish. One thing that you will find constant though, is the comfort and the level of care you receive here at Greylands Guesthouse during your stay. Every year, the Victorian Week festival in Llandrindod Wells draws people from all over the world. In the late 19th century, Llandrindod Wells was the place to go for holidays and to take the waters from the town's famous spa. At its peak, the tourist trade here brought in some 900,000 people each year.

The town still has a great affinity with the Victorian age, with buildings from that time being preserved to show off the architecture and elaborate wrought iron work. More than just buildings though, for this week the town's spirit goes Victorian too.

If you enjoy dressing up, you can join in the parades, tea dances and music hall evenings in costume of the era, or come as you are if you prefer. The male voice choir concert is always a big attraction, with rousing choruses and stirring traditional Welsh melodies.

There is a traditional steam driven funfair on the green, lots of vintage vehicles and bicycles to be marvelled at, and the whole thing is topped off by a torchlight parade and fireworks by the lake on the last night.

Staying at Greylands Guesthouse is the perfect location for joining in the festival, being just a short walk from the town centre and the rock park.

This fantastic event takes place on June 26/27th this year and always draws a huge international entry. Covering 150 miles of challenging forestry tracks and mixed terrain around Llandrindod Wells, it is a true test of man and machine.

Local competitors always figure strongly with many riders and passengers from Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader and Llanidloes figuring in the 500+ entry list for this season's event.

There is great support from local bike dealer, ET James of Rhayader too and the paddock up by Llandrindod Wells lake is always a very lively place to be throughout the event.

There are trade stands selling all the equipment and spares that an enduro rider could need and there is plenty to see both in action around the circuit and colourful characters around the town. We still have a few rooms left for the week of the enduro but early booking is a good idea as accommodation in the town fills up fast.
